Are you thinking of paining the inside of your home but unsure of exactly when to do it? As summer comes to an end, fall can be a great time to paint your home. Here are a few advantages for painting in the fall.
Paint needs dry surfaces to adhere to the walls and to evaporate in order to dry. Humid conditions can place moisture in the paint. If this happens while you are painting or after you have painted the surface and waiting for it to dry, the texture of your paint job could be ruined, causing you to have to re-paint the walls. Fall months can be drier and less humid than other months of the year. If the weather forecast calls for rain within a few days of the date that you plan to paint, you may need to schedule it for a different day.
Although you may be painting indoors, the temperature outside can affect the temperature of the walls indoors, as well as the room temperature if you open windows to release paint fumes. Paint may not dry properly in extreme temperatures. If the weather is too hot, it may dry too fast and can crack and bubble. If the temperature is too cold, it can prevent paint from drying. Therefore, you may want to make sure the temperature is above 40 degrees, but no hotter than 70 degrees before you paint. In many areas of the country, this may be early to mid-fall when temperatures can be relatively mild.
Less Chance of Drastic Temperature Changes
Paint may not respond well to drastic temperature fluctuations. Winter, spring and summer months can see more fluctuations in temperature from day to night than in the fall. Temperatures in early fall months tend to be more stable and may show less fluctuation. Even though you may be indoors, the outside temperatures can permeate to your walls.

A fresh coat of paint is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to breathe new life into a room. However, there are a number of things to consider before you break out the rollers and start painting. Consult this cheat sheet for ideas on painting that will ensure that your new room makes the statement you want it to with its new paint job.
Look at the Lighting
Look at the lighting of the room when choosing a color. Natural light from open windows or skylights makes the color you choose look vibrant and bright. Incandescent lighting makes warmer colors look warmer and cooler colors look cooler. Fluorescent lighting has a natural blue tint that will affect the shade of any color under it.
Think About the Mood of the Room
Mood is another important consideration. Think about what the room you are painting will be used for and the message you want to send with it. The color of paint you choose can have a huge impact on the mood of the people in the room. For example, red makes people stimulated and excited, yellow makes them happy, and blue makes them feel calm.
Match the Surroundings
The room you are painting is not the only one in the structure. Make sure that the new paint matches the other rooms in the area. Check everywhere with a direct line of sight to the room that you are painting to get the most complete picture.
Test the Paint
Don’t start painting without conducting a spot test first. Once the paint gets on the wall, it may look slightly different from how it does on the swatch. Test several colors in a small area on the wall and allow them to dry to get the best idea of what they will look like.

Commercial or residential power washing is a simple way to both improve and maintain your property’s appearance and even has implications for the health and safety of residents, employees, and customers. There are many benefits to this cost-effective process, and here are five of the most important ones.
- Enhance Curb Appeal and Resale Value
A fresh, clean appearance is desirable for homes and offices alike. The exterior of your property creates a first impression for those passing by or entering. Pressure washing your home can also improve its value tremendously according to real estate professionals. In addition, power washing is an important preparation for exterior painting.
- Protect Your Property
A property that is properly maintained is less likely to incur damage and require expensive repairs. Pressure washing your home or office building can help prevent damage due to mold, insect infestation or other environmental damage, such as algae or salt deposits.
- Prevent Health Risks
Mold, mildew and insect nests are just some of the potential health risks to your family, employees, or customers. Pressure washing is an effective way to avoid buildup of these harmful substances. Sidewalks and steps are a common place for accidents, and pressure washing can alleviate the slippery buildup that can occur on these surfaces.
- Benefit the Environment
Pressure washing uses less water than traditional cleaning methods. Combining the proper chemicals when necessary and managing the wastewater properly is a process best suited for professionals in the industry.
- Save Time and Money
Other cleaning methods can be physically taxing and time-consuming. Pressure washing your home or office is a cost-efficient, time-effective process.

Keeping your home in excellent shape through repairs and maintenance is crucial if you want to keep its value high. A home that sports a fresh coat of paint helps make the house more inviting and appealing to look at. This, along with keeping your bathrooms and kitchen updated, plays a significant part in keeping the sale value of your home up. There are a few signs to watch for that indicate you might be due for a new paint job.
Your home looked vibrant and turned heads when it was last painted, but how is it doing now? If you’ve noticed it seems a bit tired and worn, this might mean you should have it repainted. Fading paint happens, no matter what type of paint you use, so it’s something to watch for. As a tip, dark paint tends to fade more quickly so if you prefer less maintenance, choose a light paint color.
Signs of Wear
There are a few things to watch for here. If you see that your paint is bubbling, cracking, or starting to peel, one of two things is happening. The first is that your home wasn’t painted correctly to begin with. The second is that weather has taken a toll on the paint and it should be reapplied. These problems can be signs of other issues, like mold and dry rot, so be cautious.
Time Has Passed
Maybe you haven’t seen any significant signs that the paint is failing, but it’s still been a while since you put up a new coat. As a rule of thumb, you should repaint the exterior every five to 10 years. Aluminum siding is at the five-year mark, while stucco might need repainting every six years. Wood surfaces can last up to around seven years without new paint.

Whether you’ve been in your home for decades or just moved in, there are many reasons painting your home’s exterior this spring could be beneficial to you or the home itself. Spring is the best time to paint your exterior is due to the milder temperatures. Here are a few motivators to paint your home’s exterior this spring:
1. Return on Investment
Like many renovations on your home, interior or exterior, painting the outside of your house can increase its value. The boost to your home’s value is often worth the amount you spend on professionals to paint. Crisp, fresh paint helps a home look brand new, no matter its age.
2. First Impressions
Your home’s exterior contributes to the curb appeal. This is the first impression passersby will get of your house. The biggest chance to improve your home’s curb appeal is to paint its exterior. Dingy or chipping paint can date a home and leave people to wonder if the inside matches the outside. Maybe you’d like to keep up curb appeal standards in your neighborhood or are considering selling your home. Either way, curb appeal plays a role.
Concerns in your paint job, such as peeling and blistering, may be indicators that there are problems beneath the paint. Over time, sun and moisture causes a variety of problems that can result in rotting wood and mildew. Professional painters will ensure the exterior of your home is ready for new paint before applying. Painting can ensure your structure is safe and no longer exposed to weather. Not only will your home look great, but the siding of your home will be secure once again.
Of course, you don’t truly require a reason to paint your home. Revamping and making your space shine is as easy as picking a fresh wall color. Especially if the current paint job is suffering noticeable wear, appears dated or just flat out doesn’t fit the look and feel of the space, you’ll be amazed at the transformative powers of a new wall color scheme. Here are three things to consider before committing to a new hue.
1. Think Natural When Choosing Colors
When perusing color options, keep in mind that rooms that follow nature’s color sequences tend to be the most inviting spaces. Indoor living areas should have their darkest color represented in the flooring, like the ground outside; with the ceiling holding the room’s lightest shade, like the sky. The walls should be coated a medium hue somewhere in between to represent the background.
2. Try Before You Buy
Although you may fall in love with a color upon first sight, you’re opinion on the shade may change dramatically once it’s on your own walls. The lighting in the area plays a huge role in determining how paint appears from one space to the next. Try a sample in your room before committing to ensure the reality lives up to your vision.
3. Choosing the Perfect Finish
Outside of choosing the best color for breathing life into your room, picking the paint finish is the most important color-related decision you’ll make. Also known as the sheen, paint finishes vary in appearance and durability.
High gloss is most durable and easily cleaned. The downside is that its high sheen can oftentimes highlight imperfections to the painted surface. Flat paint conceals minor imperfections, however, it tends to be more easily damaged. With a light sheen, eggshell finish falls in the middle and is popular because it holds up to damage and wear a bit better than flat ones.
Working with professionals who have the experience and proper tools makes easy work of revitalizing your living room with fresh paint. John Boston on his role at Color World from Color World Housepainting on Vimeo.
Jon Boston has operated Color World Housepainting for 12 years coming into it as a painter in college. His knowledge helps set franchisees up with methods to running a successful business. He offers the insights about what we offer as a franchise and the big things that set us apart. Take a look at our video to see if you or someone you know might be a good fit.
Tom Hodgson speaks about his start with Color World Housepainting and his excitement to sell franchises…
“Color World Housepainting got started back when I was at Ohio State. I just wanted to figure out a way to pay for school. I worked with another painting company, realizing I was basically running a painting business and not really getting compensated all that well for it. So I took that idea of being a professional and decided to start Color World Housepainting.
Color World is a one stop shop for our homeowners. We can go in, paint the house, do the repairs, tear off the gutters, paint behind them, and install a new set of gutters if it’s an exterior full paint job. Not only did we just fix the problem so the homeowner doesn’t have to paint the house in 3-4 years down the road, we can go in and fix the problem so that the customer sees that not only can we paint their house, but we can do the repairs, install the gutters and maybe even dry out their basement.
I think our customers think – why would I hire 3 different contractors when I can just hire color world? Franchisees love this concept as well.
We also wanted to make sure if we sold a franchise in a colder market with snow, that our franchisees would still be able to generate revenue, so we looked at holiday lighting. Ten years ago, no one really did holiday lighting. Now, we’ve developed a really nice atmosphere where franchisees can come in and buy a franchise and be able to do interior, exterior, gutter installation, gutter repair and on top of all that, holiday lighting.
This business is only going to continue to grow. That’s why we’re so excited to sell a franchise.
Needing some R&R after getting back into the daily routine after the holidays? Turn your bedroom into a comforting personal retreat. The colors you use throughout your house should reflect the mood you want to promote in each room. In your bedroom, it’s particularly important to maintain a sense of restfulness, especially if you have difficulty relaxing or sleeping.
Certain colors promote greater relaxation, leading to a more restful night’s sleep. There are a few elements of interior paint that can help calm your mind…
• Milder colors help promote tranquility. Bright colors can trigger the same mental sensations as a cluttered room.
• Limiting the color pallet keeps things uniform and doesn’t create excess stimulation of the brain.
• Using satin or eggshell finishes create a softer, warmer feel in your bedroom, and are easier on the eyes than glossy alternatives.
Picking a Pallet
Curious about the color pallet that has been known to create the most relaxing environment? The winner is blue-gray which is a cool and soothing natural choice for your bedroom. Other colors that work are lavenders, light greys, and greens. See below for a few reasons these colors work so well…
• These shades absorb light, rather than reflect it – making them easier on the eyes, helping you to unwind.
• These are light shades of a dark color family. This keeps the room feeling cozy without causing any reaction in the brain, like reds (associated with warning or danger) and yellows (associated with action and awareness).
• Green is also a great choice because it has elements of both warm and cool and a large variety of tints to choose from. It also pairs well with a lot of different design styles.
